Liverpool Legal Access Project

The Liverpool Legal Access Project Subgroup met on the 6 April 2009.

The aim of the project is to develop an interagency cooperation model by focusing on improving access to legal assistance services in two communities. The communities selected represent an established (Fijian) and newly arrived (Iraqi) communities in Liverpool.

Progress since the last report includes:

  • Focus group with members Liverpool Migrant and Refugee Interagency on the 20/4/2009, to explore how agencies assist clients with a legal problem and the main types of legal issues. Survey questions have also been circulated to members of the Liverpool Migrant and Refugee Network who were unable to attend the consultation.
  • Community consultation with Iraqi/Mandean and community planned for 16 June 2009

Sudanese Community Project

The Working Party met on the 28 April 2009 and prior to the presentations of the 27 March and 1 April 2009. A list of legal resources for the Sudanese Community will be available on the NLAF website and indexed on LawAccess Online.

The Working Party made presentations to the following meetings:

  • SydWest Multicultural Service Interagency on 27 March 2009
  • Blacktown Emerging Communities Action Plan (BECAP) 1 April 2009.

Participating agencies included NLAF Project Manager, Mt Duitt Community Legal Centre, Women’s Legal Service, Macquarie Legal Centre, LawAccess and PILCH.
