The aim of the Housing Law Working Group is to provide a platform for organisations in the housing and legal sector to work together in a cooperative and collaborative manner to sustain the tenancies of vulnerable people (particularly people with mental health issues) at risk of homelessness who are living in social housing.

Establishment of COAG Select Council on Housing and Homelessness.
The Council will examine the related policy areas of housing supply, social and affordable housing and homelessness, drive the national response to reducing homelessness in Australia, and coordinate housing policy reform. The key tasks of the Council are to:
- oversee the National Affordable Housing Agreement, noting the review scheduled to take place before the end of 2013;
- oversee the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness (NPAH) to ensure it achieves a maximum reduction in homelessness;
- oversee the National Partnership on Remote Indigenous Housing;
- oversee the National Building and Jobs Plan National Partnership – Social Housing;
- drive the effective implementation of COAG’s reform agenda for housing and homelessness matters through collaboration to address common structural impediments; and
- determine what works/is leading practice in reducing homelessness to inform future priorities, strategic directions and partnerships between the Australian Government, States and Territories.
